I’m so much more committed to my health and fitness now than I was last year. Last year was my first year of university, so I guess I let things slide a bit. I did light exercise 3-4 days a week, ate a lot of processed, relatively healthy food, but did a nice bit of snacking on some unhealthy food as well.
This year I’m so much more invested in looking and feeling my best. I track what I eat, not to count calories and lose weight, but to make sure my diet is balanced. It’s the first time in my life I’ve been able to track calories and keep a healthy mindset. I put effort and thought in to all my meals, and I eat way more fruit and vegetables now. They never go to waist anymore because I always snack on those instead of grabbing a bag of popchips or some other “healthy” junk food. My exercise routines are longer and harder, and I’m continuing to work out even though I get enough exercise to maintain my weight from working on a garbage truck 5x a week. Like my food, I put thought and exercise into my workout routines. Last year I wasn’t getting as many days on the garbage truck as I am now, and I wasn’t working aside from a walk every now and then.
And it definitely shows. My body is leaner, stronger, and more flexible. My skin is clearer. I have so much more energy. I have a constant desire to feel productive and I am no longer content to just lay around on my days off or when I get home from work. Work itself is easier. I can push myself throughout the day and keep my energy levels high even though I’m constantly sprinting, throwing heavy garbage bags, etc. It makes the day a lot easier when I’m not constantly wishing I was home. Overall, I feel a lot happier. I feel like my attitude has changed so much in the past year.
Fitness is a lifestyle, but being obese is also a lifestyle. They both do not happen overnight. You’ve got to choose which life you want to live! I choose to make better choices so I never have to go back to hating doctors appointments, hearing how I need to make changes for my future, or hear how important diet and exercise is. START by starting. It’s as simple as that.
